PARTICLES OF MATTER

Each substance (matter) is made of tiny particles which cannot be seen with naked eyes. These particles bear all the properties of the substance.

NOTES:- For example, if we take a small piece of paper it contains millions of particles in it, which it is made up of. These particles of paper are responsible for the properties of paper.

CHARACTERISTICS OF PARTICLES OF MATTER

1. Particles of matter have space between them.
eg- when we mix potassium permanganate in water colour of water changes to violet. It is because of particles of potassium permanganate spread all over the water to the space available between water particles

2. Particles of matter are continuously moving.
eg- take glass tumbler filled with water, put one or two crystals of potassium permanganate to it. keep it separately without disturbances after few hours we can observe colour of potassium permanganate slowly spreading through the water even without stir. It’s because particles of matter are always in continuous motion
    IMPORTANT POINTS TO BE NOTED

    * As the temperature increase velocity (speed) of particles also increases

3. Particles of matter attract each other.
eg- when we put our hand in water that part of water is separate when we took our hand back, the separat part of water rejoin again, it’s because of attraction between particles of water.
