WORKING MODEL FOR SCIENCE EXHIBITION- BOUNCING EGG

 MATERIALS REQUIRED

 Vinegar, egg, a glass tumbler

PROCEDURE

Put the egg in a glass tumbler with vinegar (make sure egg is completely immersed in vinegar). Keep it aside for at least 10 hours without any distraction. After 10 hours, take out the egg from vinegar.

OBSERVATION

We can observe that when egg dipped in vinegar for 10 hours, the harder part of its shell will be dissolved in vinegar. So it doesn’t break when we put it down to any plane surface like ordinary eggs.

SCIENTIFIC EXPLANATION

Eggshell is made up of calcium carbonate and vinegar is acid (acetic acid). Calcium carbonate will react with acid and new products are formed. In general,

Acid + calcium carbonate—→ salt + carbon-dioxide + water

Chemical reaction of vinegar with eggshell is given below
