ELECTRIC POTENTIAL DIFFERENCE (VOLTAGE)

As we know water flows, when there is a height difference. It flows from higher place to lower place. Like that, for the flow of charges an electric pressure difference is needed. That electric pressure difference is known as potential difference. Flow of charges take place only if there is potential difference between two ends of conductor)

Electromotive force (EMF)

Electromotive force is the force that is responsible for the flow of charges around a complete circuit. This force is raised due to the difference in electric potential between ends of a conductor.

Electric potential difference is defined as the work done to carrying a unit charge(one coulomb of charge ) from one point to another of a current carrying conductor.

Electric potential difference(voltage) = work/charge
                                    ie     V = W/Q

SI unit of potential difference is volt (V)

The voltmeter is the instrument used to measure voltage in an electric circuit. It is always connected in parallel to load/resistance
