ELECTROMAGNETS

Electromagnets can be made by passing an electric current through an insulated copper wire wrapped on a soft iron piece.

(Use DC current source such as batteries for preparation of electromagnets and also make sure wire used for wrapping is insulated)

The strength of electromagnets depends on

  • the number of turns of the coiled conductor
  • the strength of the current
  • the area of cross-section of the soft iron piece
