MAGNETIC COMPASS
Magnetic compass is a magnetised needle always align in north-south direction of the earth. It is used to find directions while navigating especially by sailors.
Magnet will align in a north-south direction when freely suspended.
Why a magnetic compass always shows a north-south direction?/ why freely suspended magnet always align in north south direction?
The magnetic needle inside a compass always be in a north-south direction because of the magnetic field of the earth (the magnetic field of the earth is due to the molten materials inside the earth's crust). Earth’s North Pole will act as its magnetic South Pole and its South Pole will act as magnetic North Pole.
