CHEMICAL CHANGE AND PHYSICAL CHANGE
When we consider some situations in our daily life, can observe lot of changes happening around as. For example milk is converted to curd, food get spoiled when it kept open for long time in normal atmospheric temperature, change in climates, wood turns to ashes when it burned, ice melt and become water etc.
We can observe in all the above changes, the nature and initial identity of substance have also changed, some of changes can’t be restored, but some can. Based on this we can classify the changes happening around as into two- physical changes and chemical changes
PHYSICAL CHANGE
- Physical changes are reversible changes. (Can be brought back to the original state). Example:- ice can be converted to water by applying heat energy, same water can be converted back to ice by cooling.
- Physical changes are the change that occurs without changing the chemical composition of the matter.
- New products are not formed.
CHEMICAL CHANGE
- Chemical changes are irreversible changes. Example:- when a wood is burned it will become ashes, but ashes can’t be restored back to wood by any processes.
- In chemical change the chemical composition of matter also changes.
- New products are formed by absorption or release of energy.
