WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BASES AND ALKALIS?
All the alkalis are bases, But not all the bases are alkalis because alkalis are the bases that can dissolve in water. Not all the bases can dissolve in water.
Bases which can dissolve in water is known as alkalis.
Example of bases :-
- sodium hydroxide (NaOH), potassium hydroxide (KOH), zinc hydroxide (Zn(OH)₂), copper oxide (CuO)
Examples of alkalis:-
- sodium hydroxide (NaOH), potassium hydroxide (KOH)
zinc hydroxide (Zn(OH)₂) and copper oxide (CuO) are not alkalis because they doesn’t dissolve in water.
