DISPLACEMENT REACTION OF METALS AND REACTIVITY SERIES
DISPLACEMENT REACTION
Reaction in which a highly reactive element displaces less reactive metal from solutions
Metal A + salt solution of metal B---> metal B + salt solution of metal A
Eg:-1. iron + copper sulphate --->copper + iron sulphate (Blue colour of copper sulphate becomes light green because iron sulphate is produced )
2.copper sulphate +zinc ---> zinc sulphate + copper (blue color of copper sulphate faded because of the production of zinc sulphate(colorless ))
3. zinc sulphate + copper --->no reaction takes place because copper is less reactive than zinc
4. iron sulphate + copper --->no reaction takes place because copper is less reactive than iron
REACTIVITY SERIES
Reactivity serious is an arrangement of metals in the decreasing order of reactivity
