DOUBLE DISPLACEMENT REACTION

Reaction in which there is an exchange of ions between the reactants is known as double displacement reaction.

Example of double displacement reaction

When sodium sulphate react with barium chloride, sodium and barium will exchange ions (SO₄ and Cl) between each other and produce barium sulphate and sodium chloride.

Sodium sulphate + barium chloride —> barium sulphate + sodium chloride

Na₂SO₄ +BaCl₂ −−>BaSO₄ +  2NaCl
