SUSPENSION
A suspension is a heterogeneous mixture of two or more substances in which solute particles do not dissolve but remain Suspended through out the bulk of the medium.
Examples of suspensions
- Mixture of sugar and stones
- Mixture of oil and water
- Mixture of iron fillings and sand
- Mixture of copper sulphate and potassium permanganate
Properties of suspension
- Suspension is a heterogeneous mixture.
- The particles of suspensions can be seen by naked eye.
- The particles of a suspension scatter a beam of light passing through it and make its path visible.
- The solute particles settle down when a suspension kept undisturbed. When particles settle down, the suspension breaks and it doesn’t scatter light any more.
- Suspension can be separated from the mixture by the process of filtration.
